The Family Line

The landline should always be the primary choice when it comes to the family phone at home.  Even if every member of the household has their own cell phone there are still many benefits and a need to maintain the landline. For most people the home phone is always known as that permanent number where they can reach or be reached at home. A number that is part of the home! Cell phones on the other hand are always changing and sometimes the number as well. It’s good to have a landline number the entire family knows and can depend on whenever they want to reach home.

One reason to keep a landline for the family phone is its reliability and dependability. The landline phone is still there whenever the power goes out or a cellphone breaks, is lost, or loses reception.  It acts as a life line when children or family members need to make an emergency call and there is no other way.  To have a phone to rely on for a situation like that is reason enough to keep a landline in the home.

Landlines are universal and great for family households. Instead of paying for each individual cellphone number which can get expensive the larger the family, anyone can pay one fee for the land line number and put a phone in every room in the house.

It is simple to see how important it is to keep a landline in the home. Maintaining a landline is a necessity to doing the best in taking care of the family household. The family home would not be complete without a landline. To save money on long distance contact National Access Long Distance.

Did you know about your landline?

A landline provides security that a cell phone doesn't have.  One of the ways is the 911 service that is especially useful if you live in an apartment (dorms count too).  Check out this video on the ways that landlines come in handy!

The Family Phone

Does my family still need a landline? Are we paying for something we do not need? Many families are considering these very questions when it comes to their home phone service. More and more families are canceling their home phone service and just using cell phones to make all calls. Before you completely give up your family's landline service, there are some things you should consider.

The most important thing when you have a family is keeping them safe and always being able to get ahold of them when you need to. When it comes to reliability and dependability you can't beat a landline. Your landline does not lose signal or reception and you can always count on being able to make or receive calls when you need to do so. Your landline is stationary; it’s always at your house; it can't get lost or stolen.

What if something happens at home and your cell phone is with you? How will your family get the help they need? When raising a family you never know what or when something could happen. When your family is in danger or in need of medical attention and seconds count, it's important to be able to get the help you need when you need it. Keeping your home phone you have peace of mind knowing your family will always be able to get ahold of you or anyone they may need in a true emergency.

In today's economy making every dollar count is also important especially when you have a family depending on you to meet all their needs. You may think that by cutting your home landline off you will be able to save some extra money each month. Yes, this is true; however, what many families do not realize is there are ways to keep the reliability of a landline and also save money each month.

Landline as a backup phone...

What is one of the biggest and most important reasons to carry a landline? It is for the reliability to make 911 emergency calls. This is important in any household.  Cell phones cannot compete with the dependability of a landline for at home emergencies. With the ease of use for children and seniors, reliability in power outages and ability to get emergency responders quickly are all reasons the landline is the best option to have in the home.

The landline isn’t just great for a family phone; it is also there to make emergency calls even if the power goes out. Cell phones are no good once their battery power is out. Unlike cell phones you will not lose or misplace a corded phone that is your dedicated landline. Also when you call 911 on a landline it gives the dispatcher your exact location instead of general area, which will make it a lot quicker to get responders to your aid.  Having a landline for this reason alone shows its importance.  Another great reason to have the landline as your emergency home phone is its ease of use for children and seniors.  With the advanced technology of cell phones it can make them more complicated for seniors and small children to use. A landline can remain basic and easier for seniors and children to make an emergency call if needed.

All around the landline phone is the best choice to make an emergency call.  Even if you already have a cell phone and love it, it is still wise to keep a landline in the home for back up if nothing more than for emergencies. Everybody's Parachute!

Keeping your landline makes sure every family member or visitor is safely grounded.   With a landline you have a "go to resource” when a natural disaster or emergency occurs.

Landlines have secure power, are easy to locate and usually aren't silent. Consider this:

  • Landlines are never incapable of making a call due to cell tower volumes which can be compromised during power outages or civic emergencies.
  • You know exactly where your phone is every time you really need it. Imagine if someone was breaking into your house and you couldn't find your cell phone?
  • Have you ever tried looking for your cell phone when it's changed to silent mode? Unless you remember exactly where you left it, you could be searching for hours. But not with a landline; it won’t slip under the couch pillow when on silent.

With a family phone, signal strength is never an issue. For some people, reception can be poor even in their own home. Sometimes you don't find this out until you switch carriers and then you are stuck with a spotty service or static on the line. But have you ever heard of that happening with a landline.

Many people in your home need to depend on a landline. Be it a visitor without a cell phone, a child or grandma, your landline has you covered - just like a parachute.

Keep Your Cell Phone Private

Many people do not realize that the same radio frequencies that are responsible for making cellular phone communications easy are the same elements which allow outsiders to invade their privacy.  Radio frequencies can be intercepted, private information can be swiped through a cellular phone Wi-Fi connection, smart phones, like a computer, can be hacked.

These techniques are used by stores and retailers to track customers’ whereabouts and purchases.  Individuals can also hack onto phones in an attempt for identity theft.  Even the government uses your signal to collect incriminating or personal data without your knowledge.

There are, of course, some prevention techniques that a person can utilize to protect themselves.  First and foremost, one should never give out information to anyone who calls you or notifies you of needing your personal information such as a credit card or similar sensitive information, especially over a cellular phone.  Sometimes though it can be necessary to update payment information for a bill or order a new service, then a land line should be used to handle this type of business.  In fact, there are huge benefits gained from the use of a land line in respect to maintaining privacy.  In a world where one's phone number is requested by businesses on a regular basis, it is better to provide a land line number and keep one's cellular phone for personal calls, thereby reducing interruptions and reserving cellular phone use for people you actually want to speak with.  In other words, if you want to keep your cellular phone number private, choose to keep your land line.  If you want to save money on your land line, contact National Access Long Distance.

E9-1-1: Can You Trust It?

Most people do not know the differences between 911 and E911 (Enhanced 911), and just how important some of those differences are.  In fact, while E911 services carry some obvious benefits, consumers who are concerned about safety should consider maintaining a landline telephone service, for the safety of their families.
Basic 911 services, in terms of a landline, usually means that when an emergency call is made, the system automatically reports the telephone number and location to a 911 operator, serves as a dispatcher. A phone call made to 911 with a landline is extremely reliable and accurate with location.  However, what about 911 for cellphones?  Basic 911 services in this case could result in one of three ways: the 911 center gets no information, it only gets the cellphone's number, or the center gets the call back number and coordinates with a POSSIBLE location.  This last one is the least likely, which is where E911 comes in.
E9-1-1 services are utilized by cellphone companies and VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) phone services.  This service is meant to rectify the problems caused by basic 911.  With E911, the consumer's billing address is stored in a database so that when an emergency call is placed, that call is automatically routed to the emergency center that corresponds with that location and the information is displayed on the dispatcher's screen.  This means that if the call is incomplete, disconnected or if the caller cannot speak, then emergency services still has a location to go to.

While E911 answers some of the issues raised by wireless communications and emergency services, there are, in fact, still a number of problems.  The addresses stored as the consumer's location must be updated any time that customer moves, changes their number or adds numbers, otherwise, emergency services may go to the wrong location.  Furthermore, in the case of VOIP services that require broadband connections to operate, if the power is out or the broadband connection is down, then no 911 services are available.  The same holds true if your Internet service gets cut off due to any type of technical difficulties. Obviously, E911 services are far from perfect and may not be available in times of an emergency.  For this reason everyone should seriously consider maintaining a landline for the safety of their families.  If you want to save money on your long distance service, contact National Access Long Distance.
